Sussex Welfare Report October 2026
Firstly, a quick reminder that when recruiting new Coaches/Officials/helpers etc to always apply for a new DBS for the applicant before they start rather than rely on an existing DBS from the update service. The update service only updates every 9 months so the DBS presented could be up to 9 months “out of date” and there has been an example of an applicant (not in gymnastics !) deliberately using this “loophole” to conceal a recorded offence.
ACTIVE Sussex have a Club conference on Thursday 19th November (10am to 3pm) at the AMEX Stadium in Brighton.

We both have full-time jobs and try to commit as much as we can to the County. Attending County competitions requires as much notice as possible as we juggle work and family commitments. If we commit to a competition, it is very frustrating if we are told a few weeks before that “our services are no longer required”.
If Competitions are utilising different Welfare officers, a report should be sent to Emily so if there any issues they can be looked at by the committee.
At the Sussex Trampoline Championships at the weekend, it was the usual issues. Coaches and Gymnasts wearing jewellery (all happily removed them without complaining). The warm up mats seemed to attract gymnasts plus other youngsters. Several times they were reminded to move. Coaches must supervise their gymnasts at the correct time and, as a suggestion, a volunteer should stop unauthorised youngsters from going on the mats at other times. Signs put up stating that mats are for Coach supervised warm up only, would help any volunteer to move people on who shouldn’t be on there.
